哽咽的英语表达：a strangled cry

2.limbo
1) in limbo 处于中间或不定的状态，被忽略，遗忘
eg. The project must remain in limbo until the commitee makes its decision. 该工程必须被搁置，等待委员会做决定。

3.sneer的一些表达
sneer at one’s supposed inferiors 嘲笑自以为不如自己的人
You can wipe that sneer off your face! 你还是收起你讥笑人的嘴脸吧。

4. inferiority complex 自卑情节/feelings of inferiority 自卑感
superiority complex 优越情节

inferior(形容词和名词)的一些表达：
A captain is inferior to a majorl. 上尉的级别低于少校。
让人自惭形秽 make sb feel inferior
社会地位低下 be socially inferior
社会地位不如自己的人 one’s social inferior
智力不如我们的人 our intellectual inferiors

5.yoke 牛轭>枷锁，束缚

一些表达：
摆脱奴隶制的枷锁：throw off the yoke of slavery
在残暴主人的控制之下：under the yoke of a cruel master

yoke oxen to a plough 给牛套上犁
yoked in marriage 联姻

6.paid vacation 带薪休假

7.模糊的记忆 vivid memories

10. peace sign 象征和平的V字型手势

11.Slip ‘n Slide：如上图，可以是一种玩具或者是游戏

12.emptiness n.空虚，空旷，空地
It is a world of emptiness. 那是一个空虚的世界。
I fell I am in emptiness. 我觉得我很空虚。

1.个性：personality/indivduality

讨人喜欢的个性：a likeable personality
很强的个性：She has a very strong personaltiy.
个性发展的影响因素：influences which affect the development of personaltiy

另外，personaltiy还有名人的意思

人身攻击：personalities 不要人身攻击：Keep personalities out of it.

个人崇拜：personality cult

individualtiy: 用于强调一个人的个性，可用来与别人区别
个性突出的男子：a man of marked indivduality

另外一个意思是指个人: state of separate existence
eg. The state often presents a threat to individuality. 国家的利益往往对个人构成威胁。

用于上面两个意思时为不可数名词，而personality为可数名词

individualities 个人的趣味，爱好
迎合人们各种各样的爱好：cater for different people’s individualities

3.shut/slam the door in sb’s face 拒绝与某人谈话，打交道

4.legit 合法的，是legitimate的俚语
一切合法的和光明正大的：all legit and above-board

5.便秘怎么用英语表达: be constipated

引起便秘：cause constipation

bind the bowels/binding 引起便秘的

6.hypnotic adj.&n. 催眠的，催眠术的，易于催眠的；催眠药，安眠药，催眠状态的人

8.Who knew watching pencils being sharpened could be so hypnotic? 谁知道削铅笔原来是这样让人想睡觉

削铅笔用英语说：sharpen pencil
形容一件事怀想让人睡觉可以说：be so hypnotic

9.外国人是怎么理解image, picture, photo之间的区别的：

有时，它们之间可以相互换用，但是还是有区别的

photo是指用相机照出来的图像，也可以是然后用打印机打印出来的照片

picture所指的范围比photo更广，即可以是相片，即photo，也可以是手工绘画的图片,包括paintings和drawings

image所指的范围是最广的，可以是在任何媒体上，用任何方法产生的某一物体的视觉呈现。

/they are all used interchangably but here are the differences as I see them.
/a photo is taken with a camera and printed on photo paper.
/a picture can be a photo but also include paintings and drawings and such.
/an image is any visual representation of a subject produced by any means on any medium.

10. pitfall 意想不到的困难或危险
eg. This text presents many pitfalls for translator. 这篇文字对于译者来说有很多难点。
